Having gone unannounced until now, the Samsung Galaxy Win Pro has popped up on the Korean manufacturer's China web portal today.
The Win Pro retains the midrange pedigree of its predecessor, the Galaxy Win,
but to a lesser degree thanks to its 4.5-inch qHD display. This is a
marked step up from the 4.7" WVGA display of the Galaxy Win.
Otherwise, the specifications are for the most part identical between
the two devices: a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 5MP camera, and
optional dual-SIM support. The battery has been bumped up by 100mAh to
2,100 mAh, and while there's no word on internal storage or RAM size, we
assume they'll be in the same 8GB/1GB neighborhood as the Win.
Also, contrary to what the name may lead you to believe, the Galaxy Win Pro will run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

5.6" 1080p display and Snapdragon 800 chipset under the hood. As usual,

nobody but the user will be able to see what's happening on the screen.
It will be interesting to see how exactly Pantech implemented this.
Pantech will be selling a special flip case that will amplify the
phone's sound and will be vibrating with different sounds and volumes.
Pantech claims the case amplifier effect will be the same as the one in a
concert hall.
Pantech Vega Secret Up will be available in black and white colors
and it will go on sale in Korea this month. There is no word on pricing
or international availability just yet.

Samyang announces 10mm APS-C lens
Korean lens manufacturer Samyang has announced the a new 10mm lens
with a maximum aperture of f/2.8, the 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS.
It
will be made available for a wide range of APS-C format cameras and its
109.5 degree field of view will produce an effective focal length of
16mm on Canon cameras and 15mm on Nikon models.
The lens is corrected to give rectilinear rather than fisheye images.
According
to the manufacturer, a focused development program has been employed to
obtain the highest possible optical performance while keeping size
down.
It is designed for architectural photography, specifically
when shooting indoors and space is limited, as well as landscape
photography.
Inside the lens are 14 elements divided into 10
groups, with 2 aspherical AS lenses and one lens made of extra-low
dispersion glass.
Nano Coating System
The
new lens is the first from Samyang to feature a nano crystal
anti-reflection coating. This reduces reflection and flare, improving
light transmission and boosting contrast to deliver better optical
resolution.
The lens will be available from the end of January
2014 in the following mounts: Canon EF-S and EF-M, Nikon F, Pentax K,
Sony A, Fujifilm X, Samsung NX, Sony E, Four Thirds and Micro Four
Thirds.

The EU Commission cleared Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia
The European Commission cleared Nokia’s acquisition by Microsoft.
According to the EU’s executive body, “the transaction would not raise
any competition concerns, in particular because there are only modest
overlaps between the parties' activities.”
Microsoft’s official acquisition of Nokia will see Nokia’s former CEO
Stephen Elop return to Redmond as a head of an expanded Devices team.
It will include Window Phone devices, Microsoft Surface, and Xbox gaming
consoles.
The European Commission’s approval of the deal comes a day after the
US Department of Justice gave it its own clearance. Nokia’s shareholders
agreed to the transaction a couple of week ago – on November 19.
Nokia wins patent suit against HTC, about to ban One mini in UK
HTC just can't catch a break these days. The company has been in
rough financial shape for a while now, despite churning out stellar
products like the HTC One.
One of the company's biggest threats is Nokia, which coincidentally
has one of the biggest patent portfolios in the mobile space. The Finish
company has won a patent lawsuit against HTC where Justice Arnold of
the England and Wales High Court has ordered an injunction against the
Taiwanese manufacturer's products, which are in violation of Nokia's
EP0998024 patent on "modular structure for a transmitter and a mobile
station".
HTC's argument is that the technology is part of the Qualcomm chips
the company uses and should be covered in a deal between Nokia and
Qualcomm in the US. But to no avail as the judge has issued the
injunction, which has been delayed until Friday so as to give time HTC
to appeal. If that does not happen Nokia could file to ban HTC One sales
in the UK.
HTC's One mini
has already fallen victim to Nokia and will be banned from selling
starting December 6. HTC has evoked examples such as Apple, BlackBerry,
Google, LG, Samsung and Sony, which all infringe on said patent, but
that wasn't enough to save its case.
Nokia had achieved a sales ban
against the One smartphone line in the UK before, forcing HTC to change
the radios and microphones inside the One. Nokia also won against HTC
regarding its wireless patents, battery-saving patent in Germany, the list goes on.
Canon announces EOS M2 mirrorless camera
Canon has officially taken wraps of its second generation mirrorless
interchangeable lens camera dubbed EOS M2. The successor of the EOS M is said to have an auto-focus speed that is 2.3 times faster than the previous edition.
The newest Hybrid CMOS AF II system in the camera improves the
focusing speed by expanding the focus window by about 80% of the
viewfinder, which is about double the size from the EOS M.
Canon EOS M2 features the same APS-C sensor as on the EOS M, but the
company is said to have resolved the black screen issues from the
previous model. The newest mirrorless camera from Canon also comes with
integrated WiFi connectivity, which can be used for sharing images
wirelessly.
The EOS M2 comes with a design that is quite similar to the original
model. Canon’s latest addition with a kit lens is priced at 84,800 yen
(about $820) and the body along costs you 64,800 yen (about $627). Canon
EOS M2 will be available in the stores later this month.
Samsung working on 20 megapixel camera for next Note
Samsung will be the latest manufacturer to get into the megapixel race, according to a report from ET News. The company's Mobile Advanced Development team is already working on 20 megapixel camera modules.
The global market leader is allegedly still facing difficulties with
the implementation of Optical Image Stabilization option, so it's
looking for other means to differentiating its products.
Samsung's upcoming camera module is expected to debut in the second
half of next year. This means that it will likely debut on the
next-generation Galaxy Note phablet, but there is no official word at
the moment.
The South Korean manufacturer expects to ship 90 million smartphone units in 2014 with 16 megapixel camera sensors.
Samsung Galaxy S5 could come as early as Q1 next year
Korean site ETNews is reporting that Samsung is already
preparing to start production of its newest Galaxy flagship, the Galaxy
S5. Mass production will get underway in January of 2014, with an
eventual market release slated for February or March.
Highlights surrounding the expected specs of the Samsung Galaxy S5 include a 64-bit CPU, which could the first iteration of Samsung's Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) Exynos big.LITTLE chip
capable of running on eight cores simultaneously. There's also talk of
Qualcomm's Snapdragon being thrown in the mix as well, which could
indicate two S5 variants.
Other potential improvements include the inclusion of a flexible OLED display like on the Galaxy Round,
and a high capacity 4,000 mAh battery - all within a 5-inch frame. The
Galaxy S5 is set to run Android 4.4 KitKat out of box, but really
anything less would have raised more than a few eyebrows.
Also rumored is the release of the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch, which is slated to be some 15-20% thinner than the first generation.
It could possible come bundled as a peripheral to the Galaxy S5, and
will supposedly offer support for Galaxy S5 games, entertainment and
health apps.
While much of what's rumored may be a bit of a stretch, particularly
the Q1 release date, a February release date does coincide with the 10
month period between the Galaxy S III and S4. Samsung's been around the
block a few times when it comes to top-selling flagships, so we wouldn't
put an early 2014 flagship release past them.
